Dr. Rubaiul Murshed's compassion-driven journey in medicine, education, and humanitarian service gained new momentum after he graduated from Dhaka Medical College in the early 1980s. Driven by a passion for learning and service, he earned postgraduate degrees and specialized training in pediatric surgery, epidemiology, public health, and health care management from leading institutions in the UK, Australia, and India (AIIMS). As a dedicated teacher, he has taught both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and his leadership in healthcare management has driven significant hospital reforms across Bangladesh.
An accomplished author, Dr. Murshed has published several books in India and Bangladesh, along with numerous scientific articles in European and Asian journals. With his extensive experiences in life, he is now pursuing a doctorate in the psychology of kindness and wider happiness, exploring how moral values influence mental health.
Since returning to Bangladesh in 2003, he has focused on hospital modemization, writing, and human rights advocacy through the SHOMMAN Foundation, which he founded to uplift underprivileged communities. Guided by his motto, "Survival of the Kindest, he has received international recognition for his humanitarian efforts. Murshed believes morals are the essential building blocks of sustained happiness and a flourishing world.
A pioneer in kindness studies, his ongoing research explores how younger generations perceive kindness, aiming to mrture a culture of compassion and foster moral values among today's youth. As chairperson of the Foundation and the Centre for Kindness & Happiness Studies, he leads empirical research, including his major work, "The 100 Kindest People of the 20th Century". Additionally, he serves as a professor of healthcare management and a philanthro-pist. He also founded a training centre that empowers unskilled individuals especially disadvantaged women-by providing professional caregiving skills to support the elderly and vulnerable.
For over 25 years, he has written the widely read column Have a Nice Day in The Daily Star, offering accessible health guidance and promoting moral values in both English and Bengali His forthcoming book, Body and Mind, expands on his philosophy of harmonious living, bridging physical well-being with inner balance.
